My Experience
I had exams to write at school, and my friend Calysto and I decided to check out Game Haven Lodge in Chimwenya Park, Bvumbwe, Thyolo.
So here is the 411:
Established in 2006, Game Haven, a lodge about 20kms from Blantyre past Chigumula, towards Bvumbwe within the Private Chimwenya Game Park has been the realisation of a dream that started in the 1980’s -tTo create a unique retreat within Malawi which would combine tourism and wildlife conservation whilst supporting the surrounding communities in Bvumbwe.
The family owned Lodge has over the last 31years developed from a small 5 Luxury cottage establishment to now having a variety of 25 rooms and 3 self-catering guest houses.
There is a Golf course, designed and constructed by Peter Matkovich, at Mbawa Country Club, which has been open for two years and features stunning views of the natural landscape with the ten different species of wildlife wandering through the golf course located within the Private Chimwenya Game Park.
Chimwenya Game Park is filled with exciting activities for all ages ranging from guided game drives to trail ride on mountain bikes, walks, birdwatching, fishing and so much more. The Park is a perfect getaway to spend time with friends or family with something for everyone. Mbawa Country Club is just one special treat with the international standard nine hole golf course and sportsman’s bar.
The Private Lake Bvumbwe is the latest development and is serviced by Nswala Malo (Giraffe Place) Lounge bar. A beautiful location right next to the Chimwenya stream with a large bar and multiple braai BBQ facilities. Day time fun at the lake with fishing and swimming whilst you watch the animals and birds cool down and relax at the waters edge. Amazing afternoons will have you in love with Malawi’s beautiful sunsets.
Now for the 7 Things I personally Loved About Game Haven Lodge:
1. The Game
We went around the park, but most of the animals actually are very close to the lodge.
There is also a bit of birdwatching around, if you are into that.

Calysto and I stayed in Cottage 1 and 2. These luxurious cottages are Game Havens most exclusive rooms, set close to the lodge with a stunning view of the golf course and woodlands, perfect for watching the sunset.
There is a bedroom ensuite with bath and shower. A spacious lounge with a fireplace and TV to keep you entertained and warm in the evenings. The private verandah is a perfect place to spend the evening relaxing and letting your worries slip away.
