Amaryllis Hotel identifies as Blantyre’s best, and I spent a week exploring the premises to figure out why they are ‘the best’.
My first time spending a night at Amaryllis was during this year’s new year’s eve party, when they hosted a good number of guests in collaboration with Tay Grin. I loved my room so much, and I decided I had to come back.
The all-new Amaryllis Hotel Blantyre is an artful blend of modern luxury and legendary Malawian hospitality. The property boasts 91 spacious rooms and suites, three state-of-the art contemporary restaurants, 24hr guest service, multiple innovative banquets and conference venues, nestled in the centre of Malawi’s financial capital – Blantyre city.
Guests can lounge by the rooftop pool, enjoy convenient access to nearby shopping and wildlife attractions, or simply indulge in the in-house amenities while being catered to by the caring and courteous staff.
I spent one week with Amaryllis with my close friends Bernadette and Maureen, and I want to give you 7 reasons why I love Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre:
1. The Rooms
The last time I saw hotel rooms like this in Africa was at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, and I was thoroughly impressed. I was most excited when I heard of this hotel being constructed, and the rooms truly do not disappoint.
To my surprise, the hotel rooms are actually fairly affordable. You can stay at Amaryllis for as low as MK66,000.
i. The Presidential Suite – Baobab Suite
I stayed in the Baobab Suite – one of the two presidential suites in the hotel. It is a spacious room, with a living area, dining area, two toilets, two balconies and an expansive entertainment deck.
I loved this room so much, and I know I will be making this room my standard of staycations in Blantyre.
ii. Superior King Rooms
iii. Deluxe King Rooms
Enjoy expansive views from the comfort of your personal open-air lounge. Conveniently located on the pool level, just steps from the Splash Bistro.
2. The Food Experience
I really enjoyed the food at Amaryllis Hotel, trying out the different restaurants, with different menus and experiences.
At Amaryllis, you will enjoy food made by chefs Rituraj (Zaffron Restaurant) and Zahir (Splash Bistro Restaurant).
i. The rooftop romantic dining
Amaryllis offers an exclusive romantic dining experience on the rooftop at the far end of the 6th floor. It’s such an exclusive and romantic dining experience.
ii. Splash Restaurant
Splash Bistro, rated as number 1 restaurant in Malawi on trip advisor, is located poolside on the fourth floor of Amaryllis. They serve tasty bites which include juicy burgers, signature pizzas, salads and smoothies.
iii. Zaffron Restaurant
Formerly known as the Cozi Restaurant, Zaffron is a restaurant serving indian cuisine – and they include cooked-to-order specials.
iv. The Level
The Level is on the right side of Zaffron, and they have a buffet setting usually used for breakfast and events.
v. Room service
The room service is honestly stellar. I had most of my meals delivered to my room cause I had my private dining area, and it was amazing.
All guests can get meals and drinks delivered directly to their rooms.
3. Drinks and Chills
Now when you think of drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, you should definitely think Amaryllis.
i. Coffee Cup
Coffee cup offers a range of juice-blends, coffees, milkshakes which are tasty, and so brilliantly presented.
ii. Stake Out
Now I was surprised to find a bar at Amaryllis Hotel. It is such a chilled vibe, with the most perfect view of Blantyre city. I recommend it for sundowners drinks and chills.
4. The Views
The views, be it day or night are just lovely. If I must choose, I’d choose the night view because the view of Blantyre lights at night – nothing beats.
5. Conference Centre
Amaryllis has such a huge conference centre on the second floor of the building. If you have events and need a large space to host you, they’ve definitely got you.
6. Food Lover’s Market
This is for my fellow shoppaholics – I was excited to see that the ground floor of Amaryllis is a whole mall, and they even have the Food Lover’s Market. i picked up some candy, a swiss roll, some custard and a cake for snacking during my stay in the hotel.
7. The Uzuri Spa
Now softlife gang – gather here. Yes Amaryllis is within the soft life. Check out my vlog on the Uzuri Spa, and all the treatments and the services offered by the spa to the hotel’s short and longstay guests.
i. Treatments
The spa is open 7 days a week, and offers treatments which include massages, bodyscrubs, waxing, facials and more. I got a few of the above during my staycation.
ii. Gym
